News and Recent Events

October 2017: Chris, Elaine and Val head south on the A90 for the Templeton 10 sporting the new solo colours.

September 2017:  It has been such a busy summer for the solos.  We have had Iron men, marathons, loads of half marathons, several 10K's and a couple of 10 milers.  Everyone has come such a long way throughout the year, with lots of PB's being smashed throughout the season.  Time to start thinking about some winter conditioning.

May 2017: We are well into race season with many of us attending various different events with lots of success as you can see below.  Looking forward into the Summer months the Solos will have a stall at the St Cyrus Gala, so look out for us there.

January 2017: We have all taken a bit of time to relax over the festive season. Much turkey has been eaten, and I think we've all had our fair share of wine. Looking forward to the year ahead, we are all starting to fill our race calendars with a variety of challenging events, from triathlons, to obstacle races and marathons.

November 2016: We had the first official Solo's meeting at club HQ (the pub). We have decided to formalise things a bit. We now have a treasurer, Chair, Secretary and Membership officer. Things are really starting to take shape.

Great Aberdeen run

An exciting day - not Chris' 100th birthday, but his 100th half marathon.  Another good solos turn out and the girls made him feel special with some balloons and a nice lunch afterwords to celebrate. Diane ran her first 10k.  Nicola and Deb both got PBs

Forfar 10k

A beautiful day for the forfar 10K saw Allan playing it safe with modest ambitions at the start, and he smashed his PB.  Val ran so hard she nearly collapsed across the finishing line.

Monikie 10K

The sun came out for 3 of the Solos Ladies who took part in the Monike 10K. Part of the course had been dug up, so underfoot conditions were not as easy as expected.  The girls still got great times as below

Valerie  56.22

Elaine   1.00.35

Bryony 1.04.44

Run Balmoral Weekend

On Saturday 5 Solos took part in the Stena Drilling 10K event with great times from everyone, those hill sprints and cliff path training really paying off and and we all conquered the hill!

Simon Chalmers         42:02

Val Thomson               56:51

Bryony Walker             1:02:39

Elaine Titmuss            1:02:39

Nicola Harrison          1:06:50

On Sunday Alan took part in the Duathlon in a combined time of 1:46:30 pictured here lining up for one of the runs.

Iain took part in the 15 mile Trail race and completed in a time of 1:48:52 (no pic so far!)

A great effort by everyone yet again

Garioch 10k & Half Marathon

9 Solos took part in total, the 6 ladies doing the 10k event and the 3 men doing the half marathon. Great effort all round;

Val Thomson 56:09

Shirley Roberston 56:54

Elaine Titmuss 1:00

Bryony Walker 1:02:59

Nicola Harrison 1:05:24

Deborah Faith 1:05:25

Half Marathon

Simon Chalmers 1:35:29

Rich Ballantyne 1:41:33

Chris Horrigan 1:46:09

Val's training has paid off - she completed the Arbroath Footers Smokies 10 mile race in 1:38:44 Which placed her 30th in her category

Chris has done it again! Completing the Thames riverside 20 in 3hr 5min 58sec.

Our very own Happy little elf, Nicola organised an Elf yourself virtual 10K around St Cyrus. Safe to say this is St Cyrus' first organised 10k event and it went down a treat. A nice sociable run was had by all, and we managed to raise some valuable funds for meningitis research

Rich and Si at the end of the illuminator 'half marathon' which is a 15 mile trail race at night, running through the apparently scenic Glentanar. The guys had 2 different strategies, one starting fast and one going steady on the hills, but it ended with them just a minute apart, with times of 2:22 and 2:23.

Rich doing the Craggy Island Triathlon - He came 38th out of 178 people, was top of the Montrose triathlon club and was 7th in his age category. A monumental effort.

Chris flying the Solos flag once again - completing the Solent half marathon in 1:46:20... Getting quicker mate!

Chris just before completing the Crathes half marathon in 1:47:41, in some scorchio weather!

It has been a busy month for the solos. Nicola took part in the forfar 10K in a very respectable 1:04.

Si, Chris and Elaine completed the Barybuddon half marathon in 1:38, 1:43 & 2:06 respectively.

It's really nice to see the team spirit pushing us all on
